Wedding planning can tend to cause loads of stress especially when you are trying to let all your preparations to fit into the required budget. There are even situations when a couple may choose to invest more money into their wedding than that they had planned for. However, it may not be easy to realize but there might be things that you are planning to spend money on and yet, if you look at them in a different angle, they can save you tones of cash that you can use for something different.
My wedding brings you some of the ways you can save and use your money wisely when it comes to wedding planning;
You don’t really need a wedding planner
Susan Kirabo Mukiibi, a wedding planner and CEO of Suki Events says organizing a wedding is hectic and therefore a planner is key in keeping everything in control. It helps a couple feel a bit more relaxed and some weight of stress is taken off their shoulders.
However, seeking help from a wedding planner means you have added another item on your budget that will need to be catered for. If the wedding planner’s fees fit into your budget and you feel there will be no income regrets when you hire one, it is okay. But if you feel this is just adding unnecessary costs, then you can cut it out.
It isn’t easy to plan a wedding as couple without seeking any help. Ask some of your friends, in-laws and family members for help.
Evelyn Ndagire Sebuccu says she and her husband made their wedding preparations while they were many miles apart. Her husband was out of the country but she still had to make sure she handled everything perfectly despite being the one at the scene where the wedding was to take place.
Ndagire says everything was a whole new experience to her but with the help of her in-laws and family members, she didn’t really need a wedding planner, “One of my husband’s relative, Angella Mukasa helped a lot with some of the service providers and my family members also offered a helping hand when it came to preparing for the function.”
Choose a reception venue that is quite close to the mosque or church
Besides being tiresome and time-consuming, going for a reception venue that is way far from the mosque or church where your marriage is to be officiated can be quite a money consuming item. This means that you will have to pay more to the car company if you hired one, or spend much more money on fuel that you could have saved.
Consider picking out venues that are much close to each other or better yet, use the same venue for both events. Some mosques and churches usually have beautiful garden areas that a couple can consider using as a reception venue.
Trim your guest list
If you feel you have managed to economize on every detail of your wedding but things are still beyond your estimated budget, consider scraping off some people from the guest list.
This may be a hard thing to do but for your own good, you need to seat down a revise your guest list as you take off a few people. It is better to explain to them after the wedding why they missed out on attending than landing yourself in a large pit of debts.
If you are having a hard time deciding on who to invite and who not invite, turn to the wedding contributions. You can choose to put aside your closest family members and friends, some few people that have stood by you during the entire planning process and then, choose from that left that didn’t help you out with any kind of contribution and cut them off.
Jacinta Mukiibi, a wedding planner and bridal shop owner at Kamu Kamu plaza says it is funny how you beg people to contribute the little they can for your wedding and they ignore you, yet they will still show up to eat free food and drinks on the actual day.
If cutting your guest list will get you the results you want, then you shouldn’t hesitate to do it at all.
Revise your wedding dates
According to Derrick Kyambadde, an events manager at Sparkle Events, there is a season when almost everyone is planning and doing a wedding. That is usually around December, January or generally third term holidays.
Most people plan their weddings during this time because it is when most of their loved ones will be free and available to attend their ceremonies, even those that live outside the country are usually around by this time so it’s normally favorable. however, it may not be so favorable on your wallet.
Since service providers are on high demand during this period, their fees tend to be much higher compared to the normal ones.
Consider choosing a date where service providers are on a lesser demand in case it doesn’t affect your ceremony in any way negatively. This will help you access them at much more favourable prices.
Have a much lesser entourage in number or consider only going for a matron and best man
Having fewer bridesmaids and groomsmen can help cut on your cost however if you feel like you really need many of them, you can consider asking them to cater for their outfits and salon fees.
The real trouble comes only when you have to pay for each and every one of their outfits and other accompanying fees. If you don’t really have a strong reason for needing them, go without them. It will additionally save you time, drama, and the difficulty in controlling them.
According to viola Tumuhimbise having a full entourage at a wedding felt like a need because almost all weddings she had attended always did. However, when she thought of how unique she and her husband would be if they didn’t have an entourage, she decided to settle for not having one.
Tumuhimbise adds that they could have done away with the best man and matron too but then they had to sign the certificates since they were the witnesses.
You can decide to have a matron and best man that will help you with those tiny bits that you may not be able to handle as a bride and groom.
Always make sure that you can at least cover the largest percentage of your wedding without any difficulty with the funds. If you feel like the funds are not enough, you can always rely on some of these tips to help you make a reasonable and favourable wedding budget.
