It’s few days left to the end of the year 2019. We, however, can’t close the year without reminiscing about moments that excited and awed us. Let’s start with some kwanjula ceremonies that made a buzz in 2019.
Rema and Dr. Sebunya’s introduction ceremony
Ugandans were in love with this ceremony right from the preparations. Setting up a trend and being the first ever known person in the country to do an ‘introduction shower’, singer Rema Namakula surprised fans with this concept that made Ugandans more anxious to see how the kwanjula ceremony itself was going to turn out.
The introduction took place on November 14, 2019 in Nabbingo, Masaka road. It was a real example of glamour right from the décor to the guests and the couple’s dress code itself. Dr Ssebunya caused debate about what is culturally permissible on one’s introduction as they changed into multiple attires.
The ceremony attracted different guests from all over the country including top-notch musicians, Ugandan tycoons, the Queen of Buganda, Sylvia Naginda and former Katikiro of Buganda JB Walusimbi. The next day, the introduction made it to the headline of the two top newspapers in the country; Daily Monitor and New Vision.
The couple finally sealed off their union with a honeymoon at Murchison Falls National Park, Paraa Safari Lodge and later headed to Chobe Safari Lodge which excited Ugandans more, since honeymoons usually take place after the actual wedding ceremony.
Comedian Salvador and Daphine Franckstock introduction ceremony
Patrick Idringi, one of Africa’s finest comedians, popularly known as Salvador was introduced earlier this year by long-time girlfriend, Daphine Franckstock, with whom they have two kids.
The ceremony attracted a number of public figures including fellow comedians like Abbey Mukiibi, Madrat and Chiko, musicians like Ykee Benda, music promoters and journalists.
One of the most outstanding things about this ceremony was the sense of fashion it had right from the couple itself to the guests. They were all dressed to kill.
Salvador crawled his way into many people’s hearts with his dance moves and emotional speech about his glorious journey with his wife.
Twins married on the same day
On Saturday May 25, 2019, two beauties from Mbarara district, Ms Priscilla Babirye and Ms Pereth Nakato, who happen to be twin sisters made headlines when they decided to introduce their men on the same day. It so happened that the twins had met their husbands on the same day, a few hours apart.
They exchanged numbers and when the twins got time to talk about it, they both decided to take their relationships seriously.
Interestingly, the grooms too are twins although from different families.
The taxi-fare affair
On November 9, 2019, Annet Nakabonye, 28, a business lady introduced Isaac Jacob Luwo, 30, a brand manager at Uber to her friends and family in a kwanjula ceremony.
The beauty and most interesting part about this couple’s story is how they met. Luwo and Nakabonye first met in July 2012 in a taxi. Apparently, Luwo had forgotten his wallet at home and the conductor kept harassing him thinking he intended not to pay for his fares. This is the point when Nakabonye offered to pay for his fares and later they exchanged numbers.
Their story took Ugandans by storm, many considering it a surprise for a Ugandan woman to pay for a stranger’s taxi fare. The two are getting married in 2020.

The bride made her debut in a helicopter and was gifted a car by her father.
