One of the things that make a wedding day lively and memorable are the guests invited. In most cases, couples planning for their big day worry about how they are going to create a fun day not only for themselves but also for their guests too.
Let’s keep in mind that guests are there to witness every tiny little bit of the ceremony, this is what gives them something to talk about during the ceremony itself or even months after the big day.
Like always, My Wedding is here to help you put together some of the things that wedding guests would love to see or experience on your big day.
No one wants to take their time off what they were doing just to come and witness a boring couple that can barely even hold hands throughout the ceremony. As much as wedding preparations are stressful, don’t carry the negativity to your big day. Just be glad that that part of the phase is over and now it is time to enjoy yourselves.
Guests love seeing a couple that will make them want to fall in love again or get married immediately too.
Smile at your partner, make eye contact, basically just express your love for each other in a natural way because this, is exactly what your guests are hoping to see, a couple in love. Why not push back all that is bothering you and create moments for yourselves and ultimately your guests.
The venue and set up
Let’s face it, the venue of your wedding has a lot of impact on your guests. Right from the beginning when you give out those invitation cards, after the dates, the next thing the invitee will look out for is the venue. This will highly determine whether he or she will make it or not.
It is very important to choose a venue that is favorable for most of your guests, both in terms of distance and modes of transport, otherwise you might end up getting excuses from half of your guest list claiming they can’t make it.
According to Dr. Christopher Ssetumba, director at Crystal Power Décor and Sound, an events company, some of the things that a couple should keep in mind when choosing a favourable venue for their guests include the distance from the church/mosque to the reception should be fairly short, both venues should have ample parking space.
He also adds that it is important to look out for a venue that will make your guest feel secure and on top of that, it should have easy access to utilities like clean toilets.
Also, try your best to have your venue set up in an attractive way. Prepare a proper and sufficient sitting space for your guests, put in mind that different venues may have their negative points therefore if it is an outdoor wedding, have a back plan for weather changes like rain or too much sunshine. Having sufficient well-built tents can do the trick.
For the indoor weddings, make sure you have enough lighting for the guests to witness the ceremony clearly and also air conditioners or fans in case it gets too hot. Remember, the comfort of your guest should always be one of your topmost priorities.
Many couples usually ignore the effect food has on their ceremony. No hungry guest will bring life to your ceremony later on pay attention to it. Remember a wedding ceremony is all about cheering, clapping, laughing, dancing and come to think of it, no one can get the energy to do all this on an empty stomach. This is why it is always very important to mind the food, drinks and snacks at your ceremony.
Mohamed Arafat, a business man shares with us that on his wedding day, the plan was to serve food towards the end of the ceremony. They however couldn’t keep the guests hungry until time for serving the food came so they decided to keep them busy with plenty of drinks and simple snacks.
This also works the other way round. In case the main meal is the first before other activities, you can still serve the guests with simple snacks and drinks after some time.
However, it is always important to also take note of the kinds of food you are to serve. You wouldn’t want your guests to have food that will upset their stomachs or cause any kind of allergies, therefore, alert the people at the serving table to at least consult from each guest in the queue if they have any allergies, or are likely to face stomach problems from a particular type of food.
The bride and groom’s attires
The bride and groom are the major subjects of the day therefore everyone’s attention will be on you. This is why you need to give them something to look at.
Take your time when it comes to choosing your outfits.
According to Veronica Wabukawo Keigwin, CEO at Sisters Bridal Shop, it is always important for a bride to choose a gown that suits her body type in terms of height and shape, the same applies to the groom.
Aside from the body type, a couple should also mind the colour, size and style of their outfits. Fight hard to dress to your best because you wouldn’t want to have a guest that will appear smarter than you. One of the things that will make your day more memorable is receiving compliments from every guest regarding your smartness.
Entertainment comes in different ways. It can be through having a great DJ to throw some wonderful rhymes, a live band, hiring musicians for live performances, dance groups or even creating a special moment for the couple itself to share a dance with the guests.
All this is a way to keep your guests in the right mood for your ceremony.
You can also decide to have a choreographed danced for your guests along with the brides and groomsmen. Such activities will create memories for everyone leaving them with a story to tell about how great the ceremony was.
The schedule of the event
A wedding with an organized schedule and smooth running of events will turn out to be more fun compared to one that just goes for activities randomly.
It is always important to seat down with a professional MC that will host your event so that you can run by him how you would like the activities to go down. You too need to be open and listen to his or her advice in case the schedule needs some adjustments.
Having an organized flow of activities will help capture the attention of guests making the ceremony livelier.
There are many more things on your wedding list that most guests pay attention to however, the ones listed above are some of the major ones. No one wants their guests to leave regretting the money and time they spent just to attend a wedding that might have ended up not giving them some eye candy to feast on. Therefore, always look for greater ways to have a hyped room full of guests.
