At wedding ceremonies, event planners advise people to refrain from delivering inappropriate speeches that may cause embarrassment to the newlyweds before their invited guests.
A bride from UK whose identity has not been made known, revealed on Reddit that her mother was kicked out of her wedding ceremony for delivering an embarrassing speech.
According to Mirror UK, the bride’s mum uttered a series of mean jokes against her daughter which was met with a room of silence, before eventually the microphone was taken from her.
The bride’s mother ruthlessly attacked her own daughter’s looks saying she is happy the groom is not into looks or else her child would still be unmarried.
She said, “I am happy she [the bride] found someone that is not into looks, because I don’t know how she would have affordable plastic surgery otherwise.”
The mum went on to advise the groom to be ready to live in a small apartment since her daughter could not afford anything better. She also disclosed personal details of a chronic illness the bride was diagnosed with a year previously.
She said, “Good for the groom for putting up with the bride’s gross medical issues, bet he wouldn’t have been interested if she had been diagnosed before they got together!”
When the bride’s mother further referred to her as “damaged goods”, citing a bad incident that happened when she was a teenager, one groomsman who had had enough decided to grabthe microphone away from her to put an end to the embarrassing scene.
She was then escorted outside the reception without the bride’s knowledge as the band began to play.
The bride adds that her other family members and friends did a brilliant job of carrying on as normal, not to let whatever happened spoil their big day.
She further revealed that this did not come as a surprise to her asthe mum has always made judgmental comments about her appearance since she was a child.
She was skeptical about letting her mum speak at her celebration due to their “strained relationship” but remembered that the mum’s speech had been fine when she spoke at her sister’s wedding. However, the bride says her sister had taken the precaution of pre-approving her mum’s speech which she wishes she had done for her own wedding.
The bride further revealed that it was the following morning when she discovered that the groomsmen had not only cut her mum’s speech short but had forced her to leave.
She says this has led to a backlash from her own familymembers for kicking out her mum from her ceremony.
“I haven’t heard the end of it since. My mom says I humiliated her. My family says that I should have just prepared myself because I know how she is. They say I was wrong to deprive a mother of her daughter’s wedding,” the bride revealed. “At first, I was certain that her leaving was justified. Now, I feel like I should have expected the speech and warned the wedding party early to grin and bear it.”
“On the other hand, if my husband’s dad had delivered a similar speech, I would have dragged him out myself,” she added.
After asking Reddit subscribers if she had been in the wrong, one person replied, “Totally justified, they were not jokes, whata horrible thing to do to your daughter on what is supposed to be her special day.”
Another added, “Your mother was so cruel and abusive…. Only right she was escorted from the reception… certainly not a mother to be proud of….. the bride’s family should not have let it continue….. so fair play to the groomsman….”
