Searching for a wedding dress can be pretty exciting. Most brides usually make their research earlier through the internet or various wedding magazines to find a dress that they feel will suit them but like it or not, you need to get in contact with a professional at some point.
Whether you make your way to a bridal store or hire a bridal designer in the comfort of your home, there are those things you need to avoid when choosing your dream dress.
Here are some of them.
Having too many people around
As a bride, you can’t choose your wedding attire alone. This is because you might think it looks good on you and yet it actually doesn’t. You need someone around whose opinion you trust. One or two people are enough, exceeding that will just bring confusion.
According to Flavia Twikirize, a bridal designer and CEO of Flashy Bridals, groupie brides are usually hard to advise because everyone around will have a different opinion about how the bride looks in a certain dress.
Not everyone will agree you look, there will be some that trash your gown because it is not their dream style and so forth. So, only take a few people to avoid getting confused.
Getting tired and losing hope too fast
Fitting can be exhausting, especially when you try on a couple of dresses and you still can’t find the perfect one. However, there are those brides that get their gown on their first go without even having to try that much, don’t let that get to your head, it is always a different case for every bride.
The mistake some brides make is losing hope too quickly after trying on two to three gowns. This can be part of the things that may make a bride frustrated or slip into anxiety mode. It is always better to take things one step at a time, you never know, the last dress you try on might be the perfect fit.
Rashidah Kagie, a business woman says she had to try on more than eight gowns and she still couldn’t find the right one, “I had lost hope, I thought I was going to end up having a custom made gown and that plus the added expenses scared me but luckily when I went for the next fitting, I found the perfect dress.”
Not being open-minded
The bride should be open-minded to what the bridal designer is saying before they conclude he/she simply wants to make a sale.
Twikirize says however much you know what you actually want to look like, you must be willing to listen to your fashion designer if you want the perfect outcome. This is because what you want may not suit you, so it is better to listen to a professional, “A bride may want a specific attire that she saw on someone with a different skin tone and when you try to convince her that the attire might not look good on her, she doesn’t listen to you.”
Skin tones, body silhouettes, and heights vary. The colours that will look good on a light-skinned person may not have the same effect on a dark-skinned one. This is why a professional’s advice is always worth lending an ear.
Falling for a dress that exceeds your budget limit
As you divide your wedding budget, every item usually has a specific amount that it shouldn’t exceed. Therefore for a smooth running of everything, you need to stick to the budget. You might land on a certain dress that is beyond your means and you love it, but remember to always work within your means. You can always find something beautiful and budget-friendly if you keep looking.
Keep body shapers in mind
At times there might be chances of a bride falling in love with a wedding dress that doesn’t match their body type. Before you totally give up on the dress and go with something that doesn’t make you feel good about yourself, remember that you can opt for body shapers to give you the perfect shape that may suit the kind of gown you fancy.
Patience Kwagala, a housewife says she had her wedding one month after she had given birth, “My body was still out of shape and I had a lot of baby fat yet I didn’t want to wear a ballroom gown. I am glad there was an option of a corset so I got to wear my dream dress.”
According to Brenda Maraka, a fashion designer in Uganda, for dresses that are figure-hugging such as mermaid, sheath, and trumpet, shapewear will help give you the perfect figure that fits into that particular dress.
It can help flatten your tummy and also eliminate underwear lines if you wear panties underneath.
Like always, a perfect outfit isn’t just picked there and then, it takes time and most importantly, cooperating with a professional and giving a chance to his or her advice is what will land you the perfect outfit. Most importantly, follow your gut on what makes you feel good.
