Despite loving her wedding makeup, Marylyn had no clue of how to replicate it on a daily basis. “I tried this and the other, bought whatever my makeup-loving friends recommended but I always messed things up. That is not to mention the skin breakouts that some makeup products gave me,” she narrated.
Many women have been through an ordeal similar to that of Marylyn, however, you do not have to replicate your whole wedding look. “Pick a few tips that you can, with ease, work with on a daily basis,” Fadhila Saad of Pendeza Beauty recommends. .
Here are a few tips to consider as you develop this regimen;
“Get yourself original products to prevent your skin from reacting. Original products will not make your face react unless you have serious skin issues such as allergies,” Fyona Kirabo of Fyona Kirabo Make up studio advises.
When starting the journey of applying makeup, she suggests that one starts simple since they are not pros. “Don’t beat yourself up because you can’t contour, highlight, bronze or make a wing eye lining. Start with the basics like foundation, powder, lipstick because those can do for an everyday look,” Kirabo says.
With regards to foundation and powder, Kirabo calls for one to be careful as they apply to achieve a perfect shade. “You can ask for help from a professional makeup artist. Otherwise, if you have an oily skin, you may do away with foundation for powder.” Saad adds that when applying foundation and/or powder, less is better.
More to that, Saad advises women to keep their eyebrows well shaped. “They will enhance your look in a great way.”
She also urges one to moisturize their lips well. “Apart from looking great, they are easier to work with as it is easier to apply lipstick or lip gloss and the final look is also amazing.”
Kirabo, however, cautions women against sharing makeup brushes especially those that have direct contact with the skin such as the powder & foundation brush/ duster or beauty blender/ dabber. “Besides that, endeavour to wash your brushes at least twice a month,” she says.
When you are done with your makeup, she urges one to look in the mirror and ask themselves a few questions; “Would I laugh at someone with my kind of look?” , “Is it too much?”, “Have I blended my foundation and powder perfectly into my skin?”, “Aren’t my eyebrows so exaggerated?”, “Do I have lipstick on my teeth?” “If your answer is no then you can leave the house as all these help you to avoid making makeup disasters seeing that this is quiet new to you,” she says.
For a woman to maintain her big day look, she needs to invest in a few items. Aaliyah Naiga, a makeup artist shares these with us;
✓ A good moisturizer and primer; they are great to achieve great skin care.
✓ Brushes and tools because to apply makeup properly you need good brushes for foundation, conceallor and eye shadows.
✓ Eyebrow kit as eyebrows define the face.
✓ Eyeliner and mascara for the eyelashes; buy a good brand to give your eyelashes volume
✓ Foundation and concealer to cover up any spots or blemishes; basically to make your skin even. However, you could buy pressed powder which has both foundation and powder as it is easier to work with as you practice how to put the foundation.
✓ Blush and highlighter; it adds a nice healthy and subtle glow to your skin.
✓ An eye shadow palette is also a must because it has both dark and nude colours that one can use everyday
✓ Lipstick; the choice of colour to wear is entirely up to you depending on the kind of job you do or your mood.
✓ Makeup remover because the skin needs to stay clean and healthy when going to bed.
There are a few things that will help your makeup look even much better;
“Cleanse your skin thoroughly, tone and moisturise regardless of your skin type,” Saad urges women. She also says scrubbing once in a few days is important. ”You need to choose your products after careful consideration keeping in mind your skin type and do not change them too often as it takes time for the skin to adjust to a product.”
Kirabo emphasises the need to wash your make up off before you go to bed. ”It allows your skin to breath and even out.“
Pamela Musiimenta of Pamela Musiimenta makeup studio, adds that eating right helps to maintain your natural beauty and avoid skin breakouts such as acne. “Eat fruits, vegetables, and other healthy foods, drink plenty of water, not forgetting having ample sleep.”
