The bride in return gives the groom a gift known as <em>akabbo ko\u2019muwala<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-14109\" src=\"http:\/\/www.mywedding.co.ug\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/5-1-4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"900\" height=\"1350\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mywedding.co.ug\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/5-1-4.jpg 900w, https:\/\/www.mywedding.co.ug\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/5-1-4-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.mywedding.co.ug\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/5-1-4-768x1152.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.mywedding.co.ug\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/5-1-4-683x1024.jpg 683w, https:\/\/www.mywedding.co.ug\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/5-1-4-750x1125.jpg 750w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Akabbo ko\u2019muwala <\/em>is usually a basket containing edible gifts given by a bride to the groom during their introduction ceremony.<\/p>\n<p>My Wedding contacted Twaha Mukisa, a traditional ceremonial spokesperson and he explains the origin and reason behind the exchange of these gifts.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Origin<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>According to Twaha, the term <em>kabbo ko\u2019muwala<\/em> is a short form of a Luganda proverb that states, \u2018Akabbo ko\u2019muwala kajja kajudde, kaddayo kajudde\u2019, which loosely translated as \u201cA brides basket is brought full and has to be returned the same way.\u201d<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-9727\" src=\"http:\/\/www.mywedding.co.ug\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/NIC_0990.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"900\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mywedding.co.ug\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/NIC_0990.jpg 900w, https:\/\/www.mywedding.co.ug\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/NIC_0990-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.mywedding.co.ug\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/NIC_0990-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.mywedding.co.ug\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/NIC_0990-750x500.jpg 750w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When a groom is introduced to the bride\u2019s parents, he has to bring gifts with him to offer to the bride and her family as a sign of appreciation for allowing the introduction to take place.
