{"id":14273,"date":"2019-08-23T19:36:24","date_gmt":"2019-08-23T16:36:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mywedding.co.ug\/?p=14273"},"modified":"2019-08-23T20:37:28","modified_gmt":"2019-08-23T17:37:28","slug":"1000-weddings-at-city-church-declared-illegal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mywedding.co.ug\/?p=14273","title":{"rendered":"1,000 weddings at city church declared illegal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Daily Monitor<\/strong><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Nearly 1,000 couples whose marriages that were blessed at an Anglican church in Kampala are in panic after information surfaced yesterday that their matrimonies were not duly registered as required by law.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Clergymen familiar with the problem admitted that weddings were conducted at the Church of the Resurrection Bugolobi between 2006 and 2016 when the religious institution had not been officially gazetted to administer the holy marriages.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>As a result, none of the purported nuptials has been registered with the Office of the Registrar General at Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB), meaning they have no legal effect.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>\u201cBefore a church can conduct a wedding, it should have a licence issued by the Minister of Justice. Any wedding conducted when it\u2019s not registered will be rejected.
