Buganda Prime Minister Charles Peter Mayiga came out on Twitter yesterday to ridicule some \u2018standards\u2019 that the men have set for the traditional kwanjula ceremony, most especially, the act of changing their attires during the introduction ceremony.<\/p>\n

He wrote,\u201cOmulenzi bakwanjudde n\u2019odda mu kyusa engoye? Oyagala kulaga nga bw\u2019omanyi okwambala? Ku buko? Obukopi buno bwavaawa? Abakopi beeberalaaga essente.\u201d<\/p>\n

This loosely translates as, \u201c You are being introduced as the man and you are changing clothes?\u201d<\/p>\n

Are you trying to show your in-laws how well you can dress?<\/p>\n

Where did you get this uncultured behaviour come from?<\/p>\n

It is un-refined people that try to project an unwarranted show of wealth.”<\/p>\n

He also mocked the act of splashing money during the ceremonies advising parents to stop youth from disrespecting them, \u201d Abazadde muleke kukirizza abavubuuka okubajjooga nga bazze okwanjulwa nga babamansira ssente\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

He ended with a note calling upon people to observe what tradition accords them to, \u201cOsobola okugenda okusaala mu musala nkwawa? Awo nno ne mu kwanjulwa waliyo ennono zaayo.\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

This translates as, “Can you go to the mosque in sleeveless clothes? In the same spirit, know that a kwanjula has traditions it follows.”<\/p>\n
