All seemed well, until a bruised eye got into the picture. Ruth tells <strong>Esther Nantambi<\/strong> their story.<\/p>\n<p>People\u2019s minds quickly run to the never-ending sex when the word honeymoon is mentioned. Me and my husband were no exception. After keeping our chastity till the day of our marriage last year in June, we were excited to explore our physical chemistry.<\/p>\n<p>It was about 6:45 pm when we said goodbye to our guests at the reception. We had had a blissful wedding and were finally together in the eyes of God and man alike. My husband couldn\u2019t wait to get that alone time. That\u2019s when I got to know the severity of the words \u201cTake you\u201d that we had repeated during our marriage vows. He was literally taking me and not even my father bothered to claim me. I was nervous.<\/p>\n<p>Moments later, I was ushered into the room where we would spend our honeymoon night. I was totally speechless. It was like I was dumb. One question kept repeating it\u2019s self in my mind; <strong>\u201cWhat next?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We cuddled that night and that eases the tension. It was a dream come true. \u00a0The breakfast in the morning was heavenly. It tasted like it was prepared by Cherubim, \u2018Maybe the Lord is rewarding us for being pure in the relationship,\u2019 I thought to myself.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5838\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5838\" style=\"width: 397px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-5838\" src=\"http:\/\/www.mywedding.co.ug\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/nakato-maids-199x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"397\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mywedding.co.ug\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/nakato-maids-199x300.jpg 199w, https:\/\/www.mywedding.co.ug\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/nakato-maids.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 397px) 100vw, 397px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-5838\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>\u00a0 Sneaking a peak at the beginning of a wondrous thing<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Our honeymoon was in Kenya so we travelled the next day. Up on the\u00a0bus we hopped. I kept a bottle of\u00a0soda to take as we watched a movie in the bus. At some point, my bottle fell down which may have stimulated gas in it. That\u2019s when the problems began. As I opened my Fanta later to take a sip, the bottle top sprung off with a ferocious pop and landed right on my left eye.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5866\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5866\" style=\"width: 342px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-5866 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.mywedding.co.ug\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/brrr.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"342\" height=\"608\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.mywedding.co.ug\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/brrr.jpg 342w, https:\/\/www.mywedding.co.ug\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/brrr-169x300.jpg 169w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 342px) 100vw, 342px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-5866\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 I am happiest when am right next to you<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>I could hear an ear piercing screech from a distance as people surrounded me. The pain was excruciating.\u00a0The bus attendants gave me\u00a0first aid but the pain remained persistent.\u00a0I kept my hands strongly clenched on my face, believing that I was a bride who had lost an eye. My husband tried to calm me down. He actually carried me during the whole journey but all I could think about was the pain.<\/p>\n<p>When we arrived in Nairobi, my husband catered for the necessary bookings and slowly led me to the room.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhere are you? I can\u2019t see you! Where are you?\u201d I demanded, getting hysterical. My world was pitch black.\u00a0\u00a0For the first time, it dawned on me that the hands on my face were not what made me see darkness.\u00a0I had gone blind.\u00a0That night, my husband\u00a0rushed me to the optician. When the optician asked my husband what had happed he said, \u201cI have just married her and now she is blind!\u201d I now laugh at the memory of the panic in his voice. \u00a0The optician informed us that I had gotten a tumour in the eye. We were too frightened to tell anyone about this turn of events. I mean, honey moon should be about bliss not problems.<\/p>\n<p>I was treated for days as our honey moon passed. Slowly, I started regaining partial sight. Everywhere you sit, I will sit<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>As I got better, we moved around Kenya. We got more comfortable and closer to each other in both physical and emotional ways although we didn&#8217;t really have sex. \u00a0I am grateful that my husband sought first to care for me. \u00a0My eye got better months later. I can now see well. It gave me a feeling of safety even when harder days would show up.\u00a0 Honeymoon is about creating a basis for marriage and while sex most definitely counts, many more important things come into play. Things like trust, forbearance, lenience,\u00a0thoughtfulness, and companionship among others.
