{"id":9862,"date":"2019-02-18T13:12:08","date_gmt":"2019-02-18T10:12:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mywedding.co.ug\/?p=9862"},"modified":"2023-03-21T10:44:57","modified_gmt":"2023-03-21T07:44:57","slug":"omugamba-what-it-is-and-why-it-matters-in-ankole-ceremonies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mywedding.co.ug\/?p=9862","title":{"rendered":"Omugamba, what it is and why it matters in Ankole"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Maria Immaculate Owechi<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Banyankole refer to their giveaway ceremony as, <em>okuhingira<\/em> (recognizing the marriage of their daughter\u00a0 commonly known as give-away) during which a bride is officially handed over to the groom\u2019s family.<\/p>\n<p>During the ceremony the parents provide material support in form of gifts to their daughter to assist her settle in her new home.
