Christopher Garth, 38, who had a creative idea of proposing to girlfriend Lauren Oiye, 32, while surfing ended up dropping the ring in the sea.
According to the Mirror, Garth wanted to propose at the Hawaiian sea because that was the exact spot he first met Lauren.
It is reported that Garth went down on one knee on his surfboard and took out the ring he had been keeping in the pocket of his swimming shorts. Unfortunately, the surfer hit a slight bump in the water that led to the accidental dropping of the ring. He still went ahead and proposed without it.
In an Instagram post, Oiye said the proposal caught her by surprise. She wrote, “We caught a wave together at the surf break where we met the first time and had many of our first dates.”
“I turned back to make sure he was on the wave with me and he was on one knee with a ring box. He screamed out ‘Lauren, I love you! Will you marry me?!’” Oiye tells the story. She said yes.
It turned out that the lost ring was a spare fake one, with the real ring kept safely on the shores.
Photographers were also positioned somewhere to capture the romantic moment.
After receiving the real ring, Oiye happily thanked her fiancé for the engagement.
She posted, “Christopher Garth, I love you and am so grateful the stars aligned, and our ancestors that came before us beautifully orchestrate this for us!” Here’s to a lifetime of laughter and keeping things simple and authentic,” she added.
