He was a popular lad whose name sounded across all corners of the Makerere University. Simon Wanyera pursued his degree in Education between 2013 and 2017 and was a vibrant and proud resident of the Lumumba hall. During his studies, he was at the forefront of a number of strikes which earned him the title the ‘Revolutionary Son’.
Today however he makes the news not for chaos but for romance. The former strike leader took to his social media yesterday to announce the news of his engagement to a lady we have come to know as Joan Constance Wambuya.
The two met at campus where Wambuya was pursuing in degree in social sciences and she stayed next to him in Mary Stuart hall.
As the academic Affairs minister in the 2016/17 guild cabinet. His activism costed him on a number of occasions. He was arrested and detained in police custody and also suspended by the university at some point. However, his girlfriend seemed to find such resilience attractive and stuck with him nonetheless.
And as they say, the rest is now history. Wanyera proposed to Wambuya amidst a few close friends with whom they later had dinner.
In his revealing Facebook post, he captioned the photo,‘The Revolutionary Son and the Revolutionary daughter’
The post excited many of his friends who started sending out congratulatory messages to him.
Notable among the people cheering him on are former Makerere University guild presidents and academic Stella Nyanzi.
After university, Wanyera went on to take part in political activism with FDC.
