On May 3, 2020, Gyavira Karakire, and Precious Ainembabazi exchanged vows at Kyamwiru Catholic Parish in Rubirizi. The couple along with 15 others later headed to Sirbacco Country Resort for their reception.
The two had previously scheduled for their wedding to take place in April but unfortunately, Uganda was put on lockdown due to the current pandemic. The couple decided to postpone their plans hoping that the lockdown would be lifted anytime soon, however, they later ran out of patience and decided to go for a scientific wedding.
Unlike most couples, Gyavira and Precious stood out when it came to their accessories. The couple had on protective masks and gloves and when it came to their flower girl and metron, instead of holding flowers, they held bottles of sanitizer.
Gyavira explains that they did not choose to go for the masks and sanitizers just to protect themselves, they also wanted to bring out a visual message notifying people that this pandemic doesn’t know a party or any other occasion, you can catch the virus from anywhere.
“As a fine art teacher that majors in impressionism art, I had to communicate my message about the spread of the virus visually. Most people forget about the virus when it parties so I wanted to set an example,” Gyavira revealed.
He also adds that neglecting the safety masks and sanitizer because you are at a wedding is like neglecting your life.
