Weddings are meant to be happy moments, no worries, no problems, no regrets, just moments that are meant for fun and living to the fullest. However, no matter how happy you may be as your wedding approaches, there are those things that will always stick to your mind and keep you worrying of what their outcomes will be in case they happen. This is not only to do with the approaching phase. Even on the actual wedding day, this may keep you from enjoying the moment.
My wedding brings you some of these worries and how you can handle them;
The reception entry dance and speech
These are two major things that usually make most couples nervous before their wedding day. Unless you are used to dancing in a large crowd of people and you have maximum confidence, the reception entry dance and speech will definitely freak you out. When it comes to the dancing part, you will keep imagining if your moves will come out right, if guests will cheer or if you will even be able to dance to the rhythm of the song.
And when it comes to the speech, this is when people pay most attention so you need to give it your best. However, even when you rehearse it over and over in your mind, you may tend to still be a bit tense.
The solution to being nervous when it is time for the reception entry dance can be quite simple. First of all you need to keep in mind that it is your day to enjoy and your partner is right beside you to give you the comfort you need, which is all that matters. Choosing the right entourage that will give you energy and let you be yourself is also important. If you have these in check, then you will not even have the time to think about your lack of talent when it comes to dancing or even your shyness.
Some couples also choose to go in for dance classes and prepare a special wedding entry dance. This can be a great idea to relax because you have already rehearsed what to do.
When it comes to the speech, Brenda Nambi, a wedding planner and emcee says that the first mistake people make is not preparing one. Sometimes people assume that when they get their hands on the microphone, the words will automatically flow which is not the case.
Preparing a speech and writing it down will help you structure it well and be able to get out the right words how you want them. Having a reference will prevent you from going off topic about things that may end up boring your guests.
Tripping and falling in front of your guests
Tripping in public can tend to be embarrassing. Even when you are at any other event having fun, immediately you trip and fall, that will be the end of your happiness for the day, the next thing on your mind will be when the event will close up so that you can go home, this situation can even force people to leave events early but what if you are the bride? You can’t just leave your own wedding. You are actually supposed to be one of the last people to leave. All you can do is get up, fix yourself and keep up with the embarrassment for the rest of the day. But why let this happen in the first place?
One of the biggest cause of tripping is the kind of shoes you choose to wear. It is a custom that brides should wear high heels, but how high are the heels you have chosen and can you really walk in them? Don’t go for trend alone forgetting what makes you comfortable. You need to choose something that you are sure of. Wearing high heels on your wedding being a must is just a myth. You can actually choose to go for designer wedding pumps and still turn out amazing.
However, if you feel you really desire wearing shoes that will lift you up in height, buy them earlier and start practising on how to walk in them, this is however recommended for those that have tried to wear them before and maybe this time around, they are going in for something different in style that they have never worn before. However, if you have never worn heels in your life, settle for at least a few inches or go in for the pumps.
This is the biggest worry for couples that are to host an outdoor wedding. However much they are usually more beautiful and more comfortable, the fact that you don’t have control over weather means that your beautiful day and set up can easily be ruined by unpredictable rain that may have defied the weather forecast.
Going in for favourable outdoor tents is a good back up plan. There are quite a number of tents that are favourable for outdoor weddings and still give you a natural feeling and beautiful scenery but on the other hand, your ceremony is still secure from any drastic weather changes.
According to Esther Nabaggala of Luminous Events, tents like the skyline are the kind that will still give you a beautiful experience even when they are covered up. The skyline is shaped in the form of a house and also has a transparent top that creates more room for natural lighting. This makes it favourable to a point that you will still have your beautiful outdoor wedding and incase it rains, your guests will still be sheltered from the rain.
Other favourable tents you can consider also include the multiplex and pergola tent. All these can be designed with side shields that can be closed incase to prevent the rain from getting in through the sides.
One of your service providers not showing up
Ever thought of a situation where you plan your event successfully and on the day of the ceremony, your emcee, baker or the one in charge of décor doesn’t show up? There is no way you will not panic no matter how hard you try. Even when you find a backup plan, you will still have disappointment with you all throughout the rest of the day. Annet Luande, a boutique owner around Kampala says on the morning of her wedding, the baker in charge of delivering her cake didn’t show up and kept her cellphone turned off, “My matron had refused the wedding planner from delivering the news to me because she was sure I would go off but after them trying to find a solution with no success, they had to tell me so that we could find a way out.” Luande adds that telling her was probably the best thing they did because she knew of a friend that sold already baked cakes and even though it wasn’t what she wanted, at least she managed to secure a cake for her guests. After the wedding when she finally successfully contacted the previous baker, she claimed that she had the dates mixed up and thought the wedding was in four days.
Some situations may seem rare but the fact that it is your big day, you can’t help but think of their occurrence and there are still chances that they may happen. Maintain an open communication with your vendors/service providers. However much the chances of a service provider backing out last minute is rare, you need to keep it in mind that it can still happen. Make sure that you do deep research about a service provider before hiring them. Consult people that have used his or her services before, read reviews from their media platforms so as to try and build trust in them.
It is also important to keep constant communication and monitoring of the service providers until the day of the ceremony. Even when it comes to payments, make sure you at least make a deposit.
According, to Pastor Patrick Nagaya, a preacher with University Community Fellowship (UCF), Makerere-Kikoni and a wedding planner with Patrima Events, at times service providers tend to offer poor services because the couple failed to make a deposit for a confirmed booking.
Not being able to fit into your gown on the day of the wedding
This is every brides worst nightmare, waking up on the morning of your wedding day only to find out your gown is too big or too small to fit.
Your biggest mistake as a bride would be not trying on your gown days before your wedding actually happens. Take time off at least one or two days to the wedding, visit your designer and try own both the gown and changing dress. In case there are any adjustments that need to be made, there will be sufficient time for the process.
It is also important to watch what you eat as your wedding approaches. It will help you maintain the perfect body shape for the kind of gown you chose.
While it might not be exciting to think about your wedding worries, having a little forethought and planning for the worst will at least increase your confidence and keep you prepared in case the worst is to occur.
