A wedding is one of the happiest moments in a woman’s life. Most dream of this day and to them, it should be perfect. Even the smallest details matter because they wouldn’t want anything to go wrong so as to ruin the day for them. However, there are those little things that people tend to ignore and yet they can make your day a big mess. Things like nail polish.

Weddings are happy moments, guests are there to enjoy and witness their best friend, sister or aunty start her new life but they will notice each and everything. Choosing the right shade of nail polish on such a big day can be a little hard, especially to one that has no clue about such details.

Evelyn kalungi, an owner of Lyn beauty salon in Naalya says most brides usually prefer a neutral look, something that will appear simple and elegant no matter what. As a professional, Kalungi says before they decide on what nail polish a bride should use, they have to first consider the colours of her dress plus the decorations to be used and then try to blend them together.

“Choose something that is going to make your ring stand out and not cause unnecessary attention because guests will always find something to talk about and it could end up being your nails,” she adds. Here are some of the best shades to use;

Light pink

Ever heard of millennial pink? It is a shame that the youth of these days can’t seem to get over. Light pink can range from pink to nude to baby pink to light pinkish-violet. These shades will make you look your best plus they help that sparkling ring stand out

Nude

Nude nail polish is elegant and classy. It makes your fingers appear long and it was the official shade that duchesses Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton chose for their wedding, I mean who wouldn’t want to look like a duchess? So choose yourself a nude colour and you are good to go. Nude appears in many shades like beige, light brown shade, and yellow nude. Any of these shades will do the trick.

White

Usually, brides may want to go all white. 80% of the wedding gowns are usually white in colour so it easy to match with the dress and not look weird if you consider using white colour for your nails.

Red

I know you are thinking, really? Is red neutral? Well surprisingly yes, it is. Red is classic and goes well with almost everything. You can decide on an orangey-red or the true red. Either way, they will both work for you.

Deep green

Dark green nail polish is subtle, sophisticated, and deliciously 90s. If you have a lighter tone colour for your hands, deep green will do you just good.

Other neutral colours include grey, light blue, maroon, whatever suits your skin colour and will make your jewellery stand out and match perfectly with your decor, wedding gown and changing dress is what you should go with.

Decorated nails

Solid crystals and nail beads can be used to add flavour/attraction to your nails. In this case, a neutral shade of colour is applied to the nails first and then later crystals or beads are used to decorate the top. You can choose not to apply any colour and just go with crystals or beads. The crystals can be shaped like diamonds, heart, flowers or any other design of your choice.

James Bahirwe, the CEO of Salon Red Uganda says most of the time when they get clients, they usually don’t know what they want so they have to look at the other aspects of wedding like colours used for decoration and then advise the bride on what kind of shade to use to make her look elegant.

Black

This colour is considered neutral because it goes smoothly with whatever other colour that you are going to use. Let it be your wedding gown, shoes or changing dress. If you are looking for a colour that will not make you regret anything, black is the way to go

James Bahirwe, the CEO of Salon Red Uganda says most of the time when they get clients, they usually don’t know what they want so they have to look at the other aspects of the wedding like colours used for decoration and then advise the bride on what kind of shade that will make a good contrast.

What to avoid

Do not use too many shades at once Avoid using more than one colour. Some do it and it turns out great but it can also easily become a disaster. It is hard to blend too many colours, so using one colour would be a great way to go. However if one wants two colours, they can go for the French nails. It is more like a pink shade with some white at the tips of the nails. That will do just fine.

Don’t go too adventurous.

Your wedding day is not the day to test your art skills and it is definitely not the day to find out that your art skills are not that great. Avoid using glitter or sparkles because it may not turn out great. Go for a tried and tested shade.

Zaytun Nakato says she would prefer to go with either nude colour or light pink for her wedding because she thinks it is what most brides are going for and is one of the latest trends as we speak. “Very bright colours are so yesterday and I don’t advise anyone to create such a mess for their wedding so I personally recommend low tones.”

Whichever colours you use, remember that family, friends and in-laws are present and you will want a unique look but also a good representation of you as a new wife.
