Brenda, a lawyer & Adam, a site engineer met back in high school; he was at St. Lawrence Cream Land Campus and Kibuli SS while she was at Trinity College, Nabbingo. During school holidays, they would, once in a while, cross paths during coaching programs, although Brenda says she never took notice or recognize him. However, Adam did the entire time.

“I never thought I would end up with him when we first met, it was not until we had dated for a year or two that I saw characters in him that I wanted in a man,” Brenda recalls. “That was when I started to see myself ending up with him in marriage, but in the beginning, no”.

The now soon-to-be married couple became close friends during their first year at university but their education journey took them on different paths. But as they say, what’s meant to be will be, they reconnected in 2017.“Adam reached out to me through my Instagram DM”, she recalls. “He then went on to ask for my number and we began talking. Soon enough he declared his feelings for me and asked if we could start dating.” They dated from 2017 to 2021.

Proposal

In 2021, Adam proposed to me during the second 42 day-lockdown, which was a total surprise for me as I didn’t see it coming at all. Only his sister knew about the details of this proposal.

First, he asked me out for lunch. At the time, movements were still restricted as lockdown was still in effect, but he made it work. We went to Tamarai, our favorite restaurant. Upon arrival, I was received with a huge bouquet of flowers from Adam, before he got on one knee to ask if I would marry him. The restaurant was well decorated just for me. It really took me by surprise. It was a mixture of surprise and joy, but more joy.

Traditional wedding

“As months went by we planned and set dates for Adam to come to my home to do the official Kukyala, followed by a Gusaba, which was held in Rubaga on March 3rd this year,” Brenda recounts.

“Preparing and planning the Kwanjula was a great experience. Sourcing event service providers wasn’t stressful at all, Brenda’s family was very supportive, which made it even better,” Adam recalls.

“Above all, watching him and his entourage arriving for the event cemented my love and feelings for him. He had kept his promise,” Brenda beams.

The couple is set to tie the knot in a white wedding on August 6th.
