Bride in waiting: I will attend as many weddings around town to pick ideas

Bride in waiting is the diary of Noelyn Nassuuna who is engaged to be married in January  2023.  In it, she describes her journey to the aisle, sharing the ups and downs, and the joys and frustrations of planning her wedding.

By Noelyn Nassuuna

August is here and I can’t stop thinking about how fast my introduction is coming. Am I excited, no! I am stressed about the preparations and wish I could do the preparations without having to stress about it but that is impossible since I want the best for that day.

Last week, my focus was on getting the groups that will greet my inlaws and also welcome them when they come for the introduction ceremony.

In my culture, when in-laws arrive, my friends and relatives come out and greet them. They can be about five to six groups of people that greet and in return, my inlaws give them gifts.

I would love to have six groups of greeting and so I decided to list down all friends, siblings, and cousins that I wished to be on the greeting list. After that, I started dividing them in groups of 6. One may wonder what I considered to have these people on my list. I looked out for people that are close to me and are willing to move with me along the journey. After writing down the list, I texted all the people on the list and luckily, they were all willing.

The stressing bit about the people that have to greet us the hunting for their outfits since they must match. I have attended introductions where some groups don’t have matching  outfits and I didn’t like it.

During the week, I moved with my matron, Renata  around town to find out the different gomesis for the girls going to greet. Believe me it’s a lot of work but I would love to do it alone because of the challenges that come with having so many people to make a decision.

We moved throughout building in town checking out the various group gomesis and looked out for those that were matching with the decor but also not so bright enough to outshine me.

It’s actually funny and looks mean but that’s the reality about functions. Anything you select should not outshine the bride.

After moving up and down for a while, we managed to get a place that has nice light blue and peach gomesis which will really look good on my girls.

Atleast that is done.  There is a lot of joy I get when I tick off something from my to do list.

Currently that is my source of happiness.

This week, i learnt a big lesson. Every bride in waiting needs to attend as many weddings and introductions because there are high chances that you might like something and also consider a service provider.

Over the weekend, I was lucky to attend a wedding that matched my dream. From the music, to the tasty cake and to the decor. I decided to contact the bride who shared with me the contact number of the dj and just like that, I happened to tick off dj search off my list.

If this is the way to achieve my dreams, I guess
