Bride in waiting is the diary of Noelyn Nassuuna who is engaged to be married in January  2023.  In it, she describes her journey to the aisle, sharing the ups and downs, and the joys and frustrations of planning her wedding.

By Noelyn Nassuuna

As the days keep moving,  I am also doing all I can to keep my mental state in check and to ensure that I prepare everything I need ahead of time. I have realised that you can lose yourself during these preparations. There comes a time when you are overwhelmed with everything and you just need to lock yourself in a room and forget about the upcoming wedding. I really wonder if there are counseling sessions for preparing for a wedding. I recently got a notebook where I put down everything I must do before October. This was mainly because I realized that I keep forgetting most of the things I plan on doing. I do most of my wedding preparations over the weekend so I decided if I use Saturday for wedding preparations, then Sunday is for resting lest I run mad. My fiance also suggested we go out for a weekend so that we can forget the preparations for a moment.

Last week, I decided to look out for the perfect mc that would spice up my functions. I believe an MC determines whether your function will be interesting or boring. In my culture, an mc speaks as the father and also negotiates with the man’s side on behalf of the family.

Before choosing an mc, I ensured that I need to get one that can speak Henry’s language and mine. This will help communication between both families very easily. I also considered an mc that is very wordy so that he keeps talking throughout the entire ceremony.

When I got what I needed from my mc, I consulted a few friends and they linked me to a Radio one news reporter and presenter, Jude. When I met him, I knew he was the one because he made the meeting fun and very interactive.

One thing I have realized through these preparations is that as a bride, I need to have a list of things I hold dear to my heart lest I will be influenced to make choices on service providers that do not satisfy my dream function.

With the current hike in food prices, I decided to also book the catering services early enough before they hike their prices. I would advise any other person that has a function this year to make bookings very early before service providers become very expensive. I was lucky the lady of the catering service didn’t increase her rice. Choosing her was easy because she cooked nice food at my sister’s introduction last year. I have come to believe that a good catering service highly determines the success of the function. A function is highly considered to be good if the food served is good. Although, I am well aware that not everyone will be satisfied since people have different tastes but I hope we can satisfy at least the majority.

Don’t think I forgot about the wedding. I can’t. It’s only that I am putting the most emphasis on the introduction  that is very close. For this week I decided to ask my bridesmaids to make a selection between two dresses. At first, I didn’t want to ask for anyones opinion because people are indecisive and take long to respond. However, I decided to ask them so that they don’t think I am dictating a design for them.  Unfortunately, I have six bridesmaids and three picked one design and the other three picked the other design. So I am now confused. I am going to have to ask three different people for their opinion and then we go with what they decide.

This week I plan on going for a makeup trial. A makeup trial is an appointment you make with the makeup person to work on you so that they know what makeup works best on you before the function. I pray it is successful so that i come back with good news.
