The “big day” is a milestone that millions of people dream about from when they are young children. But often, as with the case with most parties and celebrations, it can lead to unmet expectations, as the hype around events such as these can lead to huge levels of anticipation. Here are three things to keep in mind to ensure that you are well prepared for your big day.

… Leave room for things to not go perfectly

One’s wedding day can lead to all kinds of feelings arising. Stories of brides and grooms getting cold feet, catering plans going up in flames, and that drunk relative that tends to say and drink far too much. The first thing to consider when you’re moving into the week, and eventually the day of your wedding is to ensure that you are aware that it is likely that not everything will go to plan.

If we were to make a comparison, a wedding is very much like a big project, with plenty of workers doing their part in order to ensure that the event comes to fruition. In reality, people can make mistakes, life may get in the way, and things beyond our control can start to play a role in how the day shapes up.

It’s important to do your best to be aware that there’s a good chance that not all will go to plan, and it’s even more crucial to ensure that you do not lose sight of what the day is about, celebrating the union between you and your loved one. If you keep that in mind, you will realise that all else becomes far less important.

… Drink Responsibly

If you’re getting married, it’s important to try and not be the drunkest person at the party. Sure, you should go out and enjoy yourself, but when it’s you that’s getting married, the spotlight is on you, and in all honesty, there’s pressure on you to perform and keep up appearances.

What’s more is that generally a wedding day comes with a lot of feelings that you may want to keep suppressed. The fact that you’re committing to one person for the rest of your life, the fact that you may have past loves creeping into your head, the list could go on forever. You don’t want to end up remembering your wedding for the wrong reasons.

You also don’t want to end up forgetting your wedding day completely. So enjoy yourself, drink a little champagne, eat some cake, but remember, all eyes are on you.

… Prioritise Your Partner

A wedding is a celebration of your union to your partner. It is the turning point in your relationship wherein you signal to all those that mean something to you that this is the person you want to spend the rest of your life with. As a result, you may have to put aside some of the things you would usually do, in order to make sure that your loved one is kept feeling really special.

If you’re a guy who likes to do a lot of soccer betting for example, it may be a good idea to leave the soccer betting sites alone for the day, and to focus on what really matters, regardless of who your favorite team might be playing in the upcoming game.

There will always be space to make some bets, or do whatever it is you like to do on another day.
