Do not wed during lent – Bishop Acur

The Bishop of West Lango Diocese Alfred Acur Okodi has cautioned Christians against wedding during the lent period. He said lent should be reserved for prayer and repentance.

In an interview with URN, Bishop Acur observed that a number of Churces we’re celebrating marriages during Lent, a period in which Christians are expected to live and share Jesus suffering while in the wilderness.

According to Bishop Acur, Christians need to show love, renew their spiritual life, their relationship with God, pray for peace for the country and follow biblical teachings during this period.

Bishop Acur reminded Christians to use this opportunity to pray for those in prison, leaders, and our country and also learn to share what they have with others.

But Linda Akullo, a Nurse in Lira Town disagreed saying there is no problem for one to take holy matrimony during this season.

‘’It is our heart fasting not our mouth so Christians can still enter into holy matrimony and organize weddings,” Akullo said.

Mercy Akello, a businesswoman of Teso Bar in Lira Town, also disagreed with the Bishop’s point of argument saying this period should not interfere with someone’s wedding plans.

‘’It is not a must that things like weddings and eating pork or meat must not be enjoyed because of these period since not all Christians are fasting,’’Akello said.
